On Monday, May 5, 2023, An-Najah National University emerged triumphant at the highly anticipated award ceremony for Best Applied Scientific Research in the Water and Sanitation Field. Hosted at the Water Authority's headquarters and graced by esteemed dignitaries, the event recognized outstanding contributions in water science and marked a significant milestone for An-Najah National University's academic prowess.


Among the distinguished attendees were His Excellency Engineer Mazen Ghunaim, Maria Velasco, Deputy European Union Representative, Ms. Lucia Almi, UNICEF representative in Palestine, Dr. Fadi Hassouna, Dean of the University’s Faculty of Graduate Studies, Prof. Shehdeh Jodeh from the Department of Chemistry at An-Najah, Dr. Yousef Al-Jaish, Dean of Scientific Research and Postgraduate Studies at the Islamic University, and Mr. Aref Al-Husseini, General Manager of Al-Nayzak Organization.

In a remarkable feat, Rinad Hamid, a student from An-Najah's Department of Chemistry, claimed the coveted first place. Additionally, Abdullah Al-Hajj from the Islamic University in Gaza secured the second position, and Ghadeer Al-Hanbali, also from An-Najah's Department of Chemistry, earned a well-deserved third place.

Expressing his pride and admiration, Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid, President of An-Najah National University, commended the winners for their exceptional achievement. He emphasized that their success was not a coincidence but rather a testament to the relentless hours of dedicated research they invested.

The awards ceremony aimed to inspire and motivate researchers and water science enthusiasts among Palestinian university students, nurturing their research skills and fostering scientific excellence. It also sought to raise awareness and engage young minds in addressing the critical challenges faced by the water and sanitation sector.

With an impressive participation of over 48 research papers from 11 esteemed Palestinian universities, the competition showcased the remarkable talent and commitment of the academic community in advancing water science in Palestine.
