The Department of Chemistry, founded in 1977,   has five programs in chemistry. These include a B.Sc. in Pure Chemistry, a B.Sc. in Applied Chemistry, B. Sc. Major Chemistry Minor Education, M.Sc. in Chemistry and Ph.D. in Chemistry.

The five programs aim for providing the Palestinian society with necessary specialised scientific competencies to serve the society and its development plans, programs, education, industry and conducting applied academic research. It also contributes to the dissemination of scientific culture to provide technical services in the field of chemistry for both the public and private sectors. On the other hand, to the programs aim to prepare a generation of graduates to contribute to building a society able to compete and prepare a cadre of specialists in the field of chemistry to improve the community in the areas of education and scientific research, and solving problem facing scientific and industrial development plans in Palestine. Prepare a generation of graduates to contribute to building a knowledge society by preparing a graduates who are able to teach different chemistry topics in public and private schools using modern methods of learning and teaching, whether theoretically or laboratory. 
The Department of Chemistry has taken a holistic and ambitious vision that enables graduates to play a leading role in their career prospects, both private and public. Graduates are equipped with rich and varied study plans, enabling students to work in multiple fields. The development of the program plan is being considered in line with the development of science and technology and the community's need for sustainable development.
